GDC is Hiring!
January 10, 2010
Gotham Dream Cars is looking to hire an enthusiastic, hard-working, clean cut, and well-spoken transporter to deliver and pick-up vehicles in the tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT). You will be the professional “face of the company†and will deliver and pick-up vehicles, greet clients, complete rental contracts, collect payment, and provide tutorials and test drives for our renters. Read below for more details and how to apply...
Please note: We deliver our vehicles using pickup trucks w/ enclosed trailers, so you must be familiar with the safe and meticulous loading and unloading of vehicles and be comfortable driving a pickup with an enclosed trailer. This is not a "drive fancy cars all day" job...
A Class A CDL is preferred, but not required to start. If you do not have one, you will be required to study for and pass your CDL test within two months.
Your daily travels will vary from local transport in the tri-state area to occasional long-distance transports as far as Boston or Washington D.C. (1-3 times a month in peak season). The main company office and warehouse is in the Englewood area, so you should have your own vehicle and be able to get to and from our office.
As a bonus, we operate out of the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area for 5 – 6 months out of the year (over the winter season), so you’ll have the opportunity to work out of that office on a rotating basis with our other transporters. Travel costs and our company apartment in Ft. Lauderdale will be provided.
Job Requirements
Timeliness, close attention to detail and a positive attitude are a must for this position; you will be required to complete important company documents and inspection reports that must be 100% accurate, always. Strong customer service skills and a willingness to go above and beyond to keep our customers happy are important aspects of the job, so previous customer service experience is a bonus.
Light mechanical experience is a huge plus – if you can change a tire using a mounter/balancer, perform an an oil change, fix loose trim pieces, etc., that would be a great help. You will also be the eyes and ears as far as repairs go – so when something breaks, you’ll need to spot it and report it so our mechanic can fix it.
We have a strong family-like culture here -- we help each other out, often eat meals together, and have regular company outings and dinners. If you're a loner or don't enjoy socializing with your co-workers, this will probably not be a great fit.
A full-time position is currently available (50-60 hours / week). All positions are temp-to-perm -- after 6 months of employment you will become a permanent employee (subject to performance) and you will have benefits available to you. Benefits include full PPO health insurance coverage, paid vacation, entry into our bonus system and eligibility for annual raises, also subject to performance.
About the position
The timing of our business is such that we are working hardest when others are relaxing -- so you should be prepared to work late on Friday nights and be available on Saturdays and Sundays and right before major holidays.
We are at the beck and call of our clients, so if someone calls at 7pm on a Saturday to rent a car last-minute for a big night out, we will answer that call and you’ll need to make that delivery.
If you’re interested, please send a resume AND cover letter outlining some of your experience and why you think you’d be a great fit for this position to jobs@gothamdreamcars.com.Â
Three important notes:
1. PLEASE do not call us, fax us, or show up at the office about this position. Email is the best and only way to reach us. In fact, just to make sure you're paying attention, if you call, fax, or show up in person, we're going to assume you didn't read this, and that doesn't show attention to detail ;)
2. PLEASE submit a cover letter. Sending a resume by itself tells us nothing about who you are or why you want to work here.
3. This position is challenging. You will spend a lot of time hauling cars around on the road and dealing with customer service issues, and the hours can get very rough. Again, this is not a “drive fancy cars all day†kind of position, so if your answer to 2. above is “I’m a car enthusiast and all I want to do be around/touch/smell/taste nice carsâ€, this won’t be a good fit.
If, on the other hand, you’re excited and enthusiastic about providing excellent customer service, overseeing a fleet of high end cars and making sure they get where they need to be on time and looking great, then we’ll get along just fine.
