Operations Manager (Florida Market)Â
Gotham Dream Cars is seeking a meticulous and professional Operations Manager for its Florida location for the summer season (April – October). This is an exciting and rare opportunity to immerse yourself as a pivotal figure in the day-to-day operations of a rapidly growing, successful start-up company. This position is temporary (6 months) to start, but with an opportunity to become a full-time member of the organization at the end of the season. If you are a hands-on entrepreneurial type who enjoys dealing with high-end clients & cars, are organized, professional, clean-cut, detail-oriented, and most importantly are a problem-solver “car person†with general mechanical knowledge, then this is the job for you.Your responsibilities will fall into three primary categories:
Facility Management – You will be responsible for the management and upkeep of our showroom. The hours are 9-6 during the week and between those hours you will be in or near the showroom, ready to assist any walk-in customers or perform any small administrative tasks necessary (scan contracts, check mail, send paperwork to the main office in NJ). If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, you can also assist with making sales calls and helping to capture new business.
Delivery Management – You will be responsible for making rental deliveries in the South Florida area. During the summer season, our Florida office is quiet and 90% of our vehicles are in our New Jersey office, but should a rental be scheduled you will be delivering the vehicle to the customer and taking them through the check-out and check-in process. You must be comfortable dealing with customers face-to-face, explaining the vehicles to them, filling out the rental contract and ensuring that all details are correct before handing over the keys. Note: Vehicles are transported with enclosed trailers, not driven, so you must be comfortable driving a pick-up truck with a 40-foot trailing and with loading, securing, and unloading vehicles from that trailer.
Vehicle Management – You need to make sure our vehicles are running well and looking great. You will identify problems, enter them into our issue-tracking system, work with our repair & body shops to get them back up when they break down, and make sure the cars are clean and always have a fresh coat of wax on them.Requirements for the position:
- Involvement – You must be the type of person who doesn’t mind “getting your hands dirty.†This is not an ivory-tower management position, and you should be prepared to take on any task.Â
- Mechanical Knowledge - You don’t have to be a professional mechanic, but you must be familiar with the fundamentals of automotive repair, particularly high-end exotics – ideally, you should be the kind of person who works on your own car on the weekends. The cars we deal with unfortunately break down more often than not and you must be able to handle those situations with ease.
- Problem Solver – Crazy things happen in this business all the time. Cars break down, get totaled, customers are late, early, happy, sad and everything in between, hurricanes hit, and Murphy’s Law applies all the time. You should be able to handle this without breaking a sweat. (Ok, maybe a small sweat.)
- Entrepreneurial Attitude – You will be managing this location and working closely with and reporting directly to the company’s founders and top executives.
- Independent-Minded – You will be working on your own for a large majority of the time and be able to spot problems and take care of them without needed extensive management. You will need to be comfortable with working alone and taking initiative to keep the Clubhouse and the cars looking perfect and ready to be rented.
- Organization - You should be meticulous and organized and must be able to handle scheduling deliveries, pickups, vehicle servicing and repair and keeping paperwork organized and up to date.
- Presentation - You should be honest, articulate, presentable, professional and clean-cut. You should be cool-tempered enough to deal with difficult customers.
- Computer Literacy – You must be computer-literate and be able to comfortably use Microsoft Windows and the major Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)
Other requirements for the position:
- Must live within 30 mins. of Dania Beach, FL
- Valid, clean driver’s license and active personal auto liability insurance coverage
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
- Intimately familiar with the South Florida roadways and geography.
- CDL Class A license a plus; not a requirement, but you MUST be familiar with loading and unloading vehicles and driving a two-car trailer with pickup truck.
Hours
Hours will be variable, as is the nature of this business. Basic hours are 9am – 6pm Mon-Fri, but this changes depending on the rental schedule. You must be available (though not necessarily physically in the office) for occasional evening and weekend deliveries.
Compensation
Base Salary is $40,000/year as a full W-2 employee. Benefits are not included but if a full-time permanent position opens up after the summer season, full health insurance will be included.
